What are Google ads for dropshipping, and how do they work?

Businesses can create ads through the Google Ads platform and promote their products in Google search results and on websites with Google’s AdSense network. Merchant-facing ad campaigns are managed through the Google Merchant Center and include options for managing your product inventory, setting bids, tracking sales performance, and troubleshooting problems.

Google ads costs can vary depending on the specific campaign and other factors. The average cost-per-click (CPCs) we’ve seen range from $0.1 to $2, with some merchants paying as much as $10 per click! AdWords does not list specific costs for Google ads.

Your Google Ads account performance history is analyzed by evaluating your CTR, Ad relevance, and landing page, and you are assigned a Quality Score between 1 and 10.

For most merchants, campaigns that manage ad placements based on relevance to the search term or website show more promising results. This includes campaigns using a Product Listing Ad (PLA) that directly displays a product image and description in the search result. Keep in mind some products work better than others when it comes to demonstrating the benefits of your dropshipping products. We’ve seen great results promoting clothes and other fashion items using both PLA campaigns and traditional text-based AdWords campaigns.

Not all ad placements are created equal, so it’s essential to track performance across each platform where you advertise. For example, product listing ads placed at the top of search results generally see higher click-through rates (CTRs) and lower cost-per-click. PLA campaigns typically generate more conversions than traditional text ads, though performance can vary based on your industry and product/market fit.

Tips for optimizing your Google ads for Shopify dropshipping

Tips for optimizing your Google ads for Shopify dropshipping

There are a few strategies to consider when creating Google ads for the dropshipping campaign. However, here are some tips for creating successful Google ads for dropshipping include:

Create relevant product-targeted ad groups

One way to organize your campaigns is by product category, each with its ad groups. Creating separate ad groups for products within your “men’s clothing” category or “women’s clothing” category would be possible.

Especially if your product is available in multiple categories, separate ad groups can help you control which keywords trigger your ads to show while also allowing you to monitor performance for each category individually. Avoid creating too many ad groups since it could create a cluttered and confusing campaign.

Use relevant keywords for your products and audience.

Use relevant keywords for your products and audience.

When creating a campaign, make sure to use keywords relevant to your products and audience. For example, if you sell “men’s clothing,” your ad should showcase a picture of a man wearing something from your store.

Also, you should target high-traffic, low-competition keywords. It will help you ensure that your ads are getting seen by people who are actually interested in what you have to offer.

Create attention-grabbing headlines and ad copy.

When creating your ad, choose headlines and clear copy about the benefits of your product. You can also include recognizable names or celebrities in your ads to help increase brand recognition.

Always use compelling images that stand out from other ads on the search results page. Make sure to test different ad variations to find the one with the most positive impact on your campaign performance.

Advertise sales, deals, and discounts

Advertise sales, deals, and discounts

When it comes to psychological price regulation, Google Ads can be a little bit trickier. You need the right product and promotion for your prospect to make them feel better when they buy from you or notice one of these ads on their screen- which will probably lead them towards an easier way of life by clicking through!

One thing I have found effective is advertising with keywords like “discount,” “sales,” “purchase”: “Get 1 Free”. This allows you to access some savvy shoppers looking specifically at deals.

Use images or videos that appealingly

Using good quality images and videos of your products is essential to drawing in potential buyers. Using high-quality images will help ensure you get the most out of each click on your ad.

Take advantage of seasonal keywords.

When a shopper finds an outfit part of their seasonal wardrobe, they’re more likely to buy it. If you target seasonal keywords with your Google ads, people will be more likely to click on the ad and possibly purchase something.

As merchants continue to experiment with Google ads for dropshipping, they see more success when they create efficient campaigns organized by product category and use relevant keywords. Using compelling copy that clearly explains the benefits of your products and attractive visuals can help generate a high number of clicks, which should help you meet your overall sales goals.

Optimize your Bids Smartly

Your goal with your Google ads for dropshipping campaigns is to drive sales at a profitable price, so bid smart! Optimizing bids based on ad performance is a key part of Google AdWords strategies that can help you identify where to invest your advertising dollars.

If you notice one product generating a large number of conversions at a low cost-per-conversion, you may want to increase the maximum CPC bid on that product. If your other products aren’t converting as well, you can decrease bids accordingly.

Don’t worry about every little detail.

Sometimes you can’t get it right on your first try! You can adjust your Google ads for dropshipping strategies as you go along to better suit the needs of your business.

Use negative keywords

Use negative keywords

You can use negative keywords to get more traffic on Google, but be careful. If you don’t use them correctly, they may not have the effect that you want.

For example, if someone searches for “girls’ clothes,” your ad might appear because of a keyword in your ad group. If this isn’t what you want, add negative keywords to your campaign to only people who search for “girls clothes online” will see your ad.

To succeed with Google ads, you need trial and error.

Keep trying new things, optimize what’s working, and scrap what isn’t! We recommend you start by setting up a few campaigns using the tips we covered and see how performance stacks up. There’s no need to go all out from the start with your Google ads for dropshipping strategies.

Google ads vs Facebook ads for dropshipping

Google ads vs Facebook ads for dropshipping

Facebook ads vs. Google ads for dropshipping depend on your specific business and target audience.

For example, if you’re selling a unique, luxury product, your potential customers are more likely to be on Facebook. But if you’re selling a commodity product that’s available at many different stores, then your potential customers are more likely to be using Google search.

With that said, here are a few things to consider when making your decision:

What it costs:

You may have to spend more on Facebook ads than Google ads depending on your target audience and budget, because the audience is smaller and more targeted. And it can take longer to see results from advertising on Facebook because people need to see your ads more than once before buying.

With Google AdWords, you can start seeing results very quickly because people who are already interested in buying something similar will be the ones who see your ads.

Competition:

Facebook Ads may be more competitive, as more people use them for marketing purposes. Google Ads may have less competition, but this also depends on your specific industry.

Targeting:

Facebook Ads has much better-targeting options than Google Ads so that you can reach a very specific audience with your ads.

Engagement:

People are much more engaged with Facebook Ads than Google Ads because the ads appear directly in your news feed.

So- Which is Better for dropshipping Google Ads or Facebook ads?

Well, I won’t sugarcoat it – it depends on your specific target audience and budget. But if you’re just getting started with dropshipping, I’d recommend starting with Google ads because the competition is lower, and it takes less effort to see results.

1 thought on “Google Ads for Dropshipping: In 2023, what must you know?”

  1. Dear Tasmia,

I hope you have been doing well. May I please know the sources that you have found that say that dropshipping is allowed on Google Merchant Center through Ads?

I am really interested in finding a source that would say that this is allowed, as sadly, every Google support representative, and other Google Product experts that I have talked to, have vehemently denied dropshipping being allowed. Google, being one of the tech giants has massive appeal to the masses in the hopes of reaching out to a wider audience for their products, thus driving customers back to their own websites. Therefore, if I do find a certified source that says dropshipping is allowed… forget silver linings on the cloud, these might well be golden then.

You see… My concern is that I have worked with various sellers over the past year who have been denied selling through their Merchant Center, even to the extent of having their account suspended, some even permanently to the point where they can never ever sell again on Google, even after making new accounts, as one would be using the same kind of information (for tax/identification purposes, payment, billing, and so on and so forth) along with using the same website, so sooner or later the new accounts would eventually get suspended(you would know why that is.. as Google is smart that way).

The only way, that I have found “dropshipping” being allowed through Google ads, is if the “seller” buys the products already and then stocks them in a place that they can deem ownership of. It’s a clear issue of policy violation under “Misrepresentation” if you do not stock the products (here is the link for your reference -> https://support.google.com/merchants/answer/6150127#:~:text=Unavailable%20promotions). Also, I think the proper term, to refer to this, would then be, “reselling”, usually with some mark-up in price to achieve some margin of profit for your business. The drawback, in this method, is that if it’s dead stock(that doesn’t move in a hasty manner) that was bought from the previous seller, one would find it really hard to do away with such products if these do not sell then.

That being said, dropshipping is allowed(only for existing sellers who are already enrolled in the dropship solution program) on Buy on Google but this wouldn’t allow new sellers to participate in this program. Also, this dropship solution from Google is only for shipping Buy on Google orders to the US from China.

I have had various sellers recently redirect me to this blog (of yours) that they read and “it says Google does allow dropshipping”. So I thought I would pop in and hear it right from the horse’s mouth, so to speak.

By the way, that is some really nice SEO work you have got done for this, appearing first in the search results even above the actual Google support page for this. That indeed makes me really happy. I will be keenly waiting for a response from you. So whenever you find it convenient for you, kindly let me know the same, as your response is very important to me.

    Regards,
    Phoenix
